Vol. 461 No. 6

Written Answers. - Civil Service Recruitment.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

62 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Finance the procedures used when recruiting service officers in the public service; the current position regarding these posts as they relate to the embargo on recruitment to the public service; and if these posts are advertised by way of notice in the public press when vacancies arise. [3418/96]

Posts at service officer-attendant level in the Civil Service are filled by candidates registered for Government employment with FÁS. A list of all such candidates is available to all Government Departments-offices and candidates from this list are called for interview.

The restriction on the filling of vacancies in the Civil Service will affect all grades. The restriction provides that two in three vacancies will remain unfilled.

Because of the requirement that candidates for posts at service officer-attendant level be registered for Government employment with FÁS, these posts are not advertised by way of notice in the public press.
