Vol. 462 No. 8

Written Answers. - Landfill Sites Regulations.

Mary Wallace

Ceist:

137 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for the Environment the effect, if any, of the Waste Management Bill, 1995, and any other pending legislation or regulations on the designation as executive or reserved functions of decisions regarding landfill sites; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5534/96]

The Waste Management Bill, 1995 preserves the existing position whereby the making of a local authority waste management plan is a reserved function. The Bill assigns to the Environmental Protection Agency responsibility for licensing significant waste disposal facilities, including local authority landfills, and for drawing up a national management plan for hazardous waste.
