Vol. 462 No. 8

Written Answers. - Northern Motorway Proposal.

Dermot Ahern

Ceist:

138 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for the Environment the position regarding the proposal on the northern motorway Gormanston-Monasterboice, E.1, Euro route through counties Meath and Louth; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5574/96]

On 23 November last Meath County Council submitted the Northern Motorway (Gormanston-Monasterboice) scheme and associated environmental impact statement for my approval. The closing date for receipt of written submissions in relation to the scheme and the likely effects on the environment of the proposed development was 23 February. A public local inquiry is now being arranged into the motorway scheme and a related bridge order application for the construction of a bridge over the river Boyne. The inspector conducting the inquiry will also hear evidence in relation to the environmental impact of the proposed development. My Department will give prior notice in the press, and inform those who made written submissions, of the date, time and venue of the inquiry.
