Vol. 462 No. 8

Written Answers. - Border Road Funding.

Mary Coughlan

Ceist:

147 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for the Environment the way in which he can justify expenditure of £2.5 million from the EU special support programme for peace and reconciliation on a national primary road, the N3 Dublin to Enniskillen, which should have been funded by the National Roads Authority; and if he will repay the £2.5 million to the Delors package funding and make it available to the county councils in the Border region. [5729/96]

The Aghalane Bridge section of the N3 Dublin-Enniskillen-Donegal route was the only section of national road affected by a closure order by the Northern Ireland authorities. I believe that it is entirely appropriate that the reopening of this important cross-Border link should be supported from the special support programme for peace and reconciliation.
