154 Mrs. Geoghegan-Quinn asked the Minister for Education whether a group (details supplied) in County Galway have been allocated a grant under his Department's recreational facilities scheme; and when payment will be made. [5468/96]

162 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Education whether she has received an application from Oughterard community centre, County Galway for funding under the recreational facilities scheme to enable urgent improvement works to be carried out to the roof of the community centre in Oughterard; and whether she has received representations from the Oughterard community centre committee that they may have to close the hall unless these repairs can be undertaken at an early date; and if she will make a statement on the matter. I propose to take Questions Nos. 154 and 162 together.

A grant of £5,000 was allocated in December 1995 to Oughterard community centre committee under my Department's recreational facilities scheme.

My Department has recently written to the committee confirming the grant allocation and seeking the submission of the necessary documentation required under the terms of the scheme.

The information sought includes details of the proposed works, evidence of title to their property, evidence of local funding, tenders for the proposed works and tax clearance certificates for the club and for the chosen contractor.

When this documentation is received and found to be in order the grant will be formally approved and payment will be made on receipt of contractor's invoices as construction work is undertaken.
