Written Answers. - Lottery-Funded Sports Centres.
Regional sports centres, sponsored by the local authorities and funded under my Department's major sports capital programme, have been provided or are planned at five locations throughout the country.
The regional sports centres in Sligo and in Galway have been completed and are in operation. Construction work on the regional sports centre in Waterford is expected to be completed by June 1996. Construction work on the regional centre in Cork commenced in November 1995 and is due for completion in early 1997.
A submission from Athlone Urban District Council including drawings, a cost plan and an application for additional funding towards the cost of the Athlone regional sports centre project is under consideration in my Department. A decision in the matter will be conveyed to Athlone Urban District Council, as client for the project, as soon as possible.
