Vol. 462 No. 8

Written Answers. - Convention of Homeworking.

Máire Geoghegan-Quinn

Ceist:

234 Mrs. Geoghegan-Quinn asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment whether the Government's representative at the International Labour Organisation Conference will be supporting a convention on homeworking which will be proposed at the conference; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5472/96]

The Irish Delegation will be involved in the negotiations on the draft Convention on homeworking at the International Labour Organisation's Conference to be held in Geneva in June this year. There is also an expected EU Commission proposal for a recommendation on homeworking. Having carefully discussed with our EU partners what is emerging from the EU's own proposed instrument in this area, and what is emerging from the ILO discussions, we will decide how best to give effect to the principles of equal treatment for homeworkers.
