Vol. 462 No. 8

Written Answers. - Community Employment Schemes.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

239 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the total number of persons on community employment schemes; the total number of places available on community employment schemes for 1996; if the 1,000 places recently announced are additional; the total numbers of persons on community employment schemes in the Dublin 7 area; the number of additional places available in 1996 for this area; whether the numbers in the Dublin 7 area are above or below the average for other Dublin areas; if they are above average, to ensure that they are not penalised for this in 1996; and when FÁS will be authorised to allocate the additional places in 1996. [5740/96]

At the end of February there were 39,544 participants on community employment schemes. An average of 40,000 places are available on CE during 1996. In addition an average of 1,000 places will be provided under the new pilot whole-time jobs option which is being introduced from 1 June next. The number of CE places in the Dublin 7 area as well as the allocation of places under the pilot whole-time jobs option are matters for FÁS who have day to day operational responsibility for the programme.
