241 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the total number of manufacturing pharmaceutical/drug companies operating in Ireland; if he will give a breakdown of these companies into their categories; and the number of companies that have branded products compared to the number of companies that have generic products. There are 73 manufacturing pharmaceutical plants in Ireland, of which 63 are overseas owned and ten are indigenous owned; 26 of these plants manufacture branded proprietary pharmaceuticals, 20 generic pharmaceuticals and 27 bulk active pharmaceutical ingredients.
