21 Mr. M. Brennan asked the Minister for Finance the plans, if any, he has to publish interim reports in view of his commissioning of the ESRI to carry out a study on the likely economic employment and sectoral implications of European Monetary Union for Ireland; the proposed publication date of the completed study; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The ESRI study will play a key role in deepening our understanding of the opportunities and challenges which European Monetary Union will present for the Irish economy. The report was commissioned by me in early January with a completion date of 30 June. Given the nature of the study and the timescale, publication of interim reports would not be either feasible or necessary. I have already stated that the findings will be made public and this will take place after receipt of the report in June.
