Vol. 463 No. 1

Written Answers. - Ministerial Transport.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

114 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Defence the number of times routine Air Corps flights and operation have been interrupted, diverted and cancelled as a result of the Tánaiste's use of particular aircraft to travel to and from Tralee, County Kerry since the inception of this Government: and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5829/96]

The transport of Ministers is an operational task performed by the Air Corps. The service is currently provided on a dedicated basis by means of a Gulfsteam IV aircraft and a Beech Super King Air 200 turboprop aircraft. From time to time other Air Corps aircraft, including helicopters, are used for the transport of Ministers in accordance with procedures approved by successive Governments over the years.

Since the formation of the current Government, an Air Corps aircraft was used on one occasion to transport the Tánaiste from Tralee. The use of the aircraft on that occasion did not impinge on any other Air Corps flying operations.
