Bertie Ahern

Ceist:

25 Mr. B. Ahern asked the Minister for Health the funds from the EU and other sources available for the southern Border counties; the funds that are additional or consequent on the peace process; and the purposes for which they have been or will be used in each of the years from 1994 to 1996. [3928/96]

Limerick East): The following funding has been approved under the Human Resources Sub-Programme of the INTERREG Initiative for the Border counties:

Cross-Border training for community care assistants

160,000

North Western Health Board-Foyle Unit of Management (joint North-South project)

Development of a Continuance Educational Training Programme

53,624

North Western Health Board-New Horizons Project (joint North-South project)

Horticultural training programme for people with disabilities

The North Western and North Eastern Health Boards on the southern side and the Western and Southern Health and Social Service Boards on the northern side, (working under a joint agreement known as CAWT — Co-operation and Working Together) have also submitted a joint proposal for funding under the EU Peace and Reconciliation Initiative. This comprehensive proposal covers a number of service areas including health promotion, primary care, public health services, services for people with disabilities and services for women. To date, no funding has been approved under this initiative. I would, however, hope that funding will be made available under this initiative shortly.
