Vol. 463 No. 1

Written Answers. - Kenmare (Kerry) Hospital.

John O'Leary

Ceist:

54 Mr. O'Leary asked the Minister for Health if he will have arrangements made for the Southern Health Board to provide further facilities to enable a larger number of long stay patients to be maintained in Kenmare District Hospital, County Kerry, on social grounds and in order to enable relatives to visit them on a regular basis, rather than travelling to Killarney. [5809/96]

Limerick East): As the Deputy is aware a number of developments have taken place in Kenmare District Hospital recently. These developments include the provision of two day rooms and the upgrading of one of the bedrooms in the hospital for terminally ill patients. The Southern Health Board is satisfied that full use is being made of the existing facilities at Kenmare District Hospital. The question of the provision of longstay accommodation in Kenmare will be considered in the context of the board's development plan for community hospitals which is due to be published in the near future.
