112 Mr. E. Byrne asked the Minister for the Environment the total number of hostel or emergency places available for the homeless; the additional plans, if any, he has to provide emergency accommodation for the homeless; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6674/96]
Housing authorities recently carried out a survey of hostel accommodation for the homeless, including emergency provision. Information from this survey indicates that there are 1,881 bed spaces available in such hostels. It is a matter for each housing authority to assess, in the light of the survey, the need for any additional emergency accommodation and to take appropriate measures.
