Vol. 463 No. 4

Written Answers. - Youghal (Cork) Courthouse.

Paul Bradford

Ceist:

131 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Justice the current position regarding the need to carry out improvement works to the Courthouse at Youghal, County Cork; and if these improvements will take into account the need to preserve the original character of the building. [6779/96]

The court sittings and offices are no longer situated in Youghal courthouse, because the courthouse is in very poor condition. No plans have been drawn up to refurbish the courthouse which would be a very expensive project. At a recent meeting with a delegation from Youghal UDC I suggested they might consider a joint venture with a community based group as a possible solution to having the old courthouse refurbished and that they should discuss this possibility with Cork County Council. It would then be up to Cork County Council to put proposals to my Department.
