Vol. 463 No. 6

Written Answers. - Sarsfield Court (Cork) Secure Unit.

Máirín Quill

Ceist:

119 Miss Quill asked the Minister for Health the current position regarding the secure unit located at Sarsfield Court, Glanmire, County Cork; the number of persons within that unit; the total spent on developing this unit; when this unit will be at full capacity; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6860/96]

The secure unit (special care unit) was opened by the Southern Health Board on the 8 January 1996. Renovations are currently ongoing at the unit and are expected to be completed later this month. The total capital cost of developing the unit will be £120,000.

The capacity of the unit is four persons. Currently there is one girl residing in the unit. Application for placement in the secure unit is through the High Court only. At present the Southern Health Board is processing a number of applications through their solicitors for submission to the High Court for placement in the unit.
