177 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for Education his views on whether the location of a university in the south east region is the logical step to fulfil the education demands of that region in view of its expansion in third-level enrolment. [6952/96]
The report of the steering committee on the Future Development of Higher Education recommended an increase in student places in Waterford regional technical college, an increase in the degree level awards and a change of title to Regional Institute of Technology.
The report is currently being examined together with the recommendations of the Higher Education Authority. When the report has been fully considered I will take the necessary decisions on the various recommendations in consultation with my colleagues in Government.
