Vol. 463 No. 6

Written Answers. - Galway Building Renovations.

Noel Treacy

Ceist:

211 Mr. N. Treacy asked the Minister for Justice when improvements will be carried out at a location (details supplied) in County Galway; the reasons for the delay in proceeding with these works; the current situation pertaining to the renovation of these buildings; the amount of money allocated for these buildings in 1996; the date on which works will commence; the nature of the works to be executed; the other relevant details; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [6857/96]

A major project incorporating refurbishment and extension works and costing in excess of £350,000 is currently under way at this station. It is expected that these works will be completed this year.

Major refurbishment works to the station, including the incorporation of the married quarters and the building of an extension, are proposed for this centre but I cannot say, at this stage, when work will actually commence. The Deputy will appreciate that given available resources, each project must be addressed in the context of overall priorities throughout the country. The Deputy can be assured, however, that there will be no avoidable delay with the project.

213 Mr. N. A major refurbishment scheme to incorporate the married quarters into the garda station is proposed for this centre but I cannot say, at this stage, when work will actually commence. The Deputy will appreciate that given available resources, each project must be addressed in the context of overall priorities throughout the country. He can be assured, however, that there will be no avoidable delay with the project.

The feasability of undertaking some immediate interim works to improve conditions at the station is being examined and it is hoped that a decision in this respect will be made shortly.
