271 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if he will consider making a freephone service available to the general public who require to make contact with his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6969/96]

At present an interdepartmental committee chaired by the Department of Finance is examining the issue of the provision of free call access to Government Departments. I will consider the issue further on the basis of the recommendations of the interdepartmental committee.
