Vol. 463 No. 6

Written Answers. - EU Funding for Southern Border Counties.

Bertie Ahern

Ceist:

35 Mr. B. Ahern asked the Minister for Justice the funds from the EU and other sources available for the southern Border counties; the funds that are additional or consequent on the peace process; and the purposes for which they have been or will be used in each of the years from 1994 to 1996. [3928/96]

The information sought by the Deputy is as follows: The Probation and Welfare Service of the Department of Justice made available a grant of £20,000, in 1995, to Cox's Demense Youth and Community Project, The House, 16 Oakland Park, Dundalk, County Louth.

The project is a locally based community project that caters for adults, young people and children. Its aim is the development of the community as a whole, with special emphasis on youth at risk from truancy, petty crime, alcohol and drug abuse. The project received EU funding in 1993 and 1994 under the Horizon Initiative. This funding ceased at the end of 1994.

I am examining other possibilities in this regard.
