Vol. 463 No. 6

Written Answers. - National Drugs Bureau.

Liz O'Donnell

Ceist:

54 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Justice if surveillance officers attached to the National Drugs Bureau have been transferred back to general surveillance assignments since the breakdown of the IRA ceasefire; if the National Drugs Bureau is being fully resourced in order to tackle the organised drugs trade and related criminality in Ireland; if manpower restrictions are preventing surveillance operations on leading criminals; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7080/96]

The disclosure of the information sought by the Deputy regarding Garda operational matters would be contrary to the public interest and established practice and, accordingly, I do not propose to comment except to say that I have been assured by the Garda authorities that they are satisfied with the manpower resources assigned to the Garda National Drugs Unit.
