Vol. 463 No. 6

Written Answers. - Dublin Crime Increase.

Michael McDowell

Ceist:

65 Mr. M. McDowell asked the Minister for Justice if there has been an increase in Garda numbers allocated to fight the rise in crime in the Dublin region since she came into office; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7077/96]

The Garda authorities are responsible for the detailed allocation of Garda personnel to different areas. They point out that the deployment of personnel within the Dublin Metropolitan Area is kept under constant review to meet policing requirements and changing needs and circumstances.

The Garda strength in the Dublin Metropolitan Area on 31 December 1994 was 3,968 members, compared to 3,984 on 31 January 1996.
