67 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Justice her views on whether it is necessary to augment the Garda Síochána with units of the Defence Forces to assist in the control of criminal activities and civil disorder; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7089/96]
I am informed by the Garda authorities that there is no need for units of the Defence Forces to be permanently deployed to assist in the control of criminal activities and civil disorder. Military assistance to the civil authorities may, of course, be requested where the circumstances of a particular situation warrant such action.
