Vol. 463 No. 6

Written Answers. - Escort and Storage of Cash.

Helen Keogh

Ceist:

79 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for Justice her views on the adequacy of security arrangements relating to the escorting and storage of large cash deposits in view of the similarities between the robbery of a Securicor premises in Waterford in January 1996, and the raid on the Brinks Allied in Dublin in 1995; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7079/96]

The Garda authorities are engaged in an ongoing review of cash movements and of companies that provide a collection/delivery and cash holding service. The Garda are available to offer crime prevention and general security advice and do so on a regular basis. In this regard, however, it should be noted that, in so far as the storage of cash on private premises is concerned, security measures and their implementation are a matter for the companies concerned. The Garda have offered security advice in the case of all cash holding centres.
