Vol. 463 No. 6

Written Answers. - Crime Godfathers.

Peadar Clohessy

Ceist:

88 Mr. Clohessy asked the Minister for Justice the consideration, if any, she is giving to a strategy which brings together Social Welfare, Revenue Commissioners and the Garda with a view to investigating crime godfathers; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7082/96]

The Government is committed to a multifaceted response to crime in general, and to the drugs problem in particular. To this end, all the agencies referred to by the Deputy participate on the National Co-ordinating Committee on Drug Abuse and-or on one of its two subcommittees dealing with the demand and supply aspects of the problem respectively.

In addition, a review by the Garda and the Revenue Commissioners of certain recommendations made by the Law Reform Commission as regards co-operation between the two agencies concerned has been recently finalised and a report will be submitted to Government shortly.
