Vol. 464 No. 1

Written Answers. - Employment Creation.

Batt O'Keeffe

Ceist:

36 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the concerns, if any, he has that out of a total of 11,500 new jobs created in 1995 as few as 1,500 were created in the Cork-Kerry region; and if he intends to rectify this situation in the short term. [5935/96]

The employment figures referred to by the Deputy relate to new jobs created by IDA Ireland during 1995. The IDA's south-west region created approximately 1,500 jobs. This represents 13 per cent of the total new full-time jobs created by the IDA in 1995.

In addition Forbairt supported companies created a total of 717 first-time jobs in Cork and south Kerry representing 10 per cent of the national first time jobs created in companies. A further 146 first-time jobs were created by Shannon Development in the north Kerry area.

Cork and Kerry County Enterprise Boards created a total of 502 jobs in those counties during 1995 representing over 17 per cent of total jobs created by the country's 35 county enterprise boards.
