Vol. 464 No. 1

Written Answers. - Home Help Scheme.

Batt O'Keeffe

Ceist:

64 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Health if he intends to rationalise the rates of pay to workers in the home help scheme. [7721/96]

, Limerick East): The issue of payment for part-time home helps has been raised a number of times in the recent past. In response to a previous question I stated that my Department, in consultations with the chief executive officers of the health boards, has under consideration a number of aspects of the home help scheme, including the overall organisation of the service and the diversity of arrangements which exist within health boards for the provision of this service. A discussion document submitted by the chief executive officer group forms the basis for this examination.

The outcome of these discussions will determine the next steps to be taken in the review of these services and I am hopeful that this stage will be reached in the very near future.
