Vol. 464 No. 1

Written Answers. - National Deaf Studies Centre.

Máire Geoghegan-Quinn

Ceist:

82 Mrs. Geoghegan-Quinn asked the Minister for Education when she will make a decision on a funding application from the Irish Deaf Society for a National Deaf Studies Centre which was referred to her by the Minister for Health; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7733/96]

In February of this year the Minister for Health referred to me a proposal which he had received from the Irish Deaf Society in relation to the establishment of a centre for deaf studies. The proposal is being considered by my Department in conjunction with the Higher Education Authority, which is the statutory advisory body on third level education development. Resource requirements will be one of the factors to be taken into consideration in arriving at a decision on this proposal.
