95 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Justice the number of clerical and administrative positions in the Garda currently being filled on a temporary or other basis by trainee, recently qualified or existing fully qualified gardaí; the number of trainee and recently qualified gardaí assigned to Garda Headquarters on clerical or administrative work; whether this is due to the embargo on staff recruitment; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The allocation of Garda personnel is the responsibility of the Garda authorities.

They have informed me that there are no clerical/administrative positions in the Garda Síochána currently being filled on a temporary or other basis by trainee or probationer gardaí. Neither are there trainee or probationer gardaí assigned to clerical-administrative positions in Garda Headquarters.

They have also informed me that there are approximately 400 gardaí engaged full-time on clerical-administrative duties at any one time, a position which obtained prior to the introduction of the restrictions on staff recruitment.
