Vol. 464 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers (Resumed). - Fishery Board's State Liability.

Éamon Ó Cuív

Ceist:

16 Éamon Ó Cuív asked the Minister for Finance the amount of outstanding taxes, social insurance deductions and levies owed by a public body (details supplied) to the Revenue Commissioners on 1 March, 1996; the steps, if any, he intends to take to ensure that this fishery board discharges its liability to the State when due; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8082/96]

It is established practice that a Minister for Finance does not answer a parliamentary question about an individual taxpayer's tax affairs, other than when the Deputy asking the question was acting on behalf of the taxpayer.

It is my understanding that this is not the case in the present instance and, in these circumstances, I must accept the advice of the Revenue Commissioners that the information sought should not be divulged on grounds of confidentiality. I am sure the Deputy will appreciate and understand the position in this regard.
