Vol. 464 No. 6

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Ned O'Keeffe

Ceist:

180 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Social Welfare the arrears, if any, due to person (details supplied) in Dublin 10 under the equality payments scheme. [8546/96]

Retrospective equal treatment payments are due to married women who received lower social welfare entitlements than married men, with similar circumstances, in the period December 1984 to November 1986.

The person concerned was in receipt of unemployment benefit from December 1984 to October 1985 when she had been paid her maximum entitlement of 12 months duration. Under the equal treatment provisions she is entitled to three months extra duration unemployment benefit up to January 1986. She is also entitled to arrears on the personal rate of benefit together with adult and child dependants increases on her claim from December 1984 to January 1986. Compensation for delay, calculated on the basis of increases in the Consumer Price Index, is payable on all arrears due.

The total amount of arrears due including compensation will issue to her early next week. Details of the composition of the payment will also be issued to her.
