211 Mr. Leonard asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the examinations, if any, that have been carried out into the failure of the food industry to deliver the number of jobs projected. [8594/96]
The action plan prepared by Forbairt in the context of the national development strategy for the food industry envisages the creation of 6,600 additional jobs, equating to a gross job gain of 9,900, in the period 1995-99. Forbairt's preliminary results for 1995 estimate that gross job creation amounted to 2,665 in that year. On that basis, the food industry is making satisfactory progress towards meeting the targets set for it.
