Vol. 464 No. 6

Written Answers. - Dublin Army Barracks.

Pat Upton

Ceist:

233 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Defence if he will have arrangements made to have trees or shrubs planted outside the wall of Cathal Brugha Barracks, Dublin 6, on the disused strip of land which is currently covered with tarmacadam. [8638/96]

The planting of trees or shrubs in the strip of land at the base of the boundary wall of the barracks is not considered to be a practical proposition for security and other reasons.

Ceist:

234 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Defence if he will have arrangements made to have the wall and railings of Cathal Brugha Barracks, Grove Road, Rathmines, Dublin 6, which face on the Grove Road on the Grand Canal, sand blasted and repainted in order to improve the appearance of the barracks and enhance the environment of this part of Rathmines. [8639/96]

Sand blasting was used to remove graffitti from an affected portion of the boundary wall in December 1995. In addition, the railings and entrance gate to the barracks on Grove Road were painted early in 1996.
