Vol. 464 No. 7

Written Answers. - Remedial Teaching Service.

Cecilia Keaveney

Ceist:

89 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Education whether she considers one remedial teacher for five schools to be sufficient in areas (details supplied) in County Donegal; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8835/96]

The division of a remedial teacher's timetable between schools who share a remedial teaching service is a matter for determination between the relevant schools and the local district inspector for national schools.

I am not in a position at present to make additional remedial teacher posts available to primary schools.

I will continue to review needs in this area and consider how best these needs can be addressed within available resources. I have noted the particular position of the schools in question and I can assure the Deputy that these needs will be given every consideration in the context of any future development of the remedial service.
