Robert Molloy

22 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Health the complaints, if any, his Department has received in relation to the findings of the Inspector of Mental Hospitals in his latest report; if so, the number of complaints received; the nature of the complaints received; the action, if any, his Department intends to take in this respect; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8764/96]

,Limerick East): I presume the Deputy is referring to the report of the Inspector of Mental Hospitals for the year ending 31 December 1993, the most recent report published.

In that report the inspector commented on the service provisions in each health board area. He was critical of certain aspects of the Western Health Board service, in particular the practice whereby patients of the west Galway service continued to be transferred to the east Galway service for treatment, a practice with which the inspector disagreed and to which he has alluded in previous reports.

Following publication of the report the factual accuracy of the inspector's comments about the west Galway service was queried with my Department and, in addition, the Western Health Board sought clarification on some of the issues raised. These communications were responded to and my Department does not propose to take any further action in the matter.
