Vol. 464 No. 7

Written Answers. - Diploma in Nursing Course.

Batt O'Keeffe

Ceist:

55 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Health if he intends to sanction the necessary funding to enable the commencement of the Diploma in Nursing Course in Cork University Hospital in association with University College Cork. [7727/96]

, Limerick East): It is my intention to proceed with the orderly transition to the nursing registration-diploma programme which commenced in Galway in October 1994 in all schools of nursing as quickly as possible. Last week I announced a number of new start-up sites for 1996 and it is my aim to have the changeover completed by the end of 1998.

As the Deputy will be aware the Cork Voluntary Hospital School of Nursing, in association with University College Cork, was included among the sites announced last week. Every effort will be made to enable the programme to commence in Cork University Hospital next year, resources permitting.
