Vol. 464 No. 7

Written Answers. - RTE Reception in County Donegal.

Cecilia Keaveney

Ceist:

74 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the reason persons (details supplied) in County Donegal who pay their television licences and who have a booster in the area cannot receive reception from RTÉ. [8836/96]

The issue raised by the Deputy is the day-to-day responsibility of the RTE Authority and I have no statutory function in the matter.

In accordance with longstanding custom, however. I am prepared to furnish to the House information supplied by RTE in response to the question relating specifically to improvements in reception of the national broadcasting services. In this regard, RTE has advised that it has carried out a survey of the Mossy Glen area and has identified a suitable site for a low power transmitter to serve this area. Subject to the granting of a licence by the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications, RTE hopes that the new transmitter will be on air before the end of 1996.
