Vol. 464 No. 7

Written Answers. - Donegal School Transport.

Cecilia Keaveney

Ceist:

85 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Education if she will have arrangements made for a review of catchment areas for school bus runs (details supplied) in the Muff and Glenealy areas of County Donegal in view of the current difficulties being experienced. [8837/96]

My Department has not received any correspondence in relation to either of the cases to which the Deputy refers.

A report has been requested from Bus Éireann concerning transport for pupils residing in the Muff area, and on receipt of the names and addresses of the relevant children in the Glenealy area, a report will be sought in respect of those pupils also.
When these reports have been received and examined, the Deputy will be informed of the outcome.

Ceist:

86 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Education the action, if any, she proposes to take to resolve the difficulties (details supplied) being experienced by children from Redcastle who attend Whitecastle national school, County Donegal. [8838/96]

I do not propose to take any action in relation to transport for pupils in the Redcastle area, as the level of service available is within my Department's guidelines.

Bus Éireann operates the school transport scheme on behalf of my Department, and transport may only be allowed to eligible pupils on vehicles provided by or contracted to Bus Éireann.

Accordingly, it would not be possible to allow pupils to use tickets issued under the terms of the scheme to avail of transport on private operators' services.
