35 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht when work will commence on the construction of landing facilities on Scattery Island, Inis Cathaigh, Kilrush, County Clare; and the funds that have been allocated in respect of this project. [8962/96]

A total of £400,000 has been provided under European Union Structural Funds for a scheme to improve both the presentation of the national monuments on Scattery Island and visitor access to the island.

The scheme to improve access includes the construction of a new landing pier, the provision of a steel walkway to the existing pier and dredging. A cost plan for this work is currently under examination.
