Vol. 465 No. 2

Written Answers. - Use of Mobile Phones.

Dermot Ahern

Ceist:

125 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Justice the procedures in place within her Department for monitoring the use of mobile phones by unestablished staff for purposes which are personal to the authorised user; the plans, if any, she has for improvements in this respect; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9394/96]

When a mobile phone is issued to any member of staff a letter is enclosed emphasising that the phone is for official purposes only. Copies of the itemised bills are sent monthly to the holders of mobile phones and they are expected to re-imburse the Department for the cost of any personal calls. I am happy that the procedures in place are effective and I have no plans to change them.
