Vol. 465 No. 5

Written Answers. - EU Payments.

Gerard Collins

Ceist:

73 Mr. Collins asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the amount of payments made in 1995 in respect of the counties of Limerick, Kerry, Cork, Waterford, Tipperary and Clare from European Union funds; the number of beneficiaries per county during this period; and the expected payments in respect of each of these counties from such funds for 1996 in respect of disadvantaged areas payments, beef premium payments, suckler cow premia payments, sheep premia payments, REP scheme payments, installation aid payments, control of farmyard pollution grants, farm retirement scheme payments and forestry programme payments. [10015/96]

The following tables set out the 1995 position for the schemes specified by the Deputy. It is not possible to predict the 1996 out-turn for the counties concerned. Payments will depend on the number and content of the applications submitted and processed satisfactorily and, in the case of investment schemes, the level of works completed to the Department's specifications.

Brian Cowen

Ceist:

74 Mr. Cowen asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will outline in tabular form the number of animals paid for and the number of farmers paid in respect of each EU premium available under CAP in the last year for which full figures are available; the value in that year of each of the said premia; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10020/96]

The following tabular statement sets out the number of applicants paid, the number of animals paid for and the amount paid under the 1995 special beef premium scheme, suckler cow scheme, ewe premium scheme and slaughter premium scheme. Under the special beef premium scheme farmers may apply on three occasions of their own choosing throughout the year under both ten and 22 months' age categories. The 1995 extensification premium payments are due to commence within the next week and it is estimated that a further £60 million will be paid under that scheme.
