Vol. 465 No. 7

Written Answers. - Dublin Light Rail Study.

Seamus Brennan

Ceist:

131 Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the names of the consultants who have been appointed to carry out the new socio-economic study into the Dublin light rail options; when the appointment was made; by whom the appointment was made; the cost involved; and whether this cost will be met by his Department or by the EU. [10533/96]

Consultants have not yet been appointed to carry out a comparative socio-economic evaluation of the Tallaght-Dundrum and Tallaght-Ballymun lines. A number of tenders have been received and are being evaluated by my Department in consultation with the European Commission. A decision on the appointment will be made in the near future. Application has been made under the technical assistance provision of the Operational Programme for Transport 1994-99 for part funding of the cost by the European Commission. The balance of the cost will be met by my Department.
