Vol. 465 No. 7

Written Answers. - Fire Prevention Officers.

Seán Haughey

Ceist:

66 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for the Environment the number of active fire prevention officers currently employed by each local authority; his views regarding this situation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10510/96]

Based on staffing returns supplied to my Department, the numbers employed in senior fire officer and specialist fire prevention officer grades by each fire authority at 31 December 1995 are set out in the following table. Fire prevention duties may also be assigned to other local officers but these are not identified in the returns supplied to my Department.

The allocation of staff to the various local authority service areas, including the fire service, and the creation of additional posts, where considered necessary, taking account of local needs and priorities, is primarily a matter for the local authorities.
