Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 20 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Gregory — the refusal of the Department of Education to sanction the commencement in 1996 of the extension to St. Paul's Secondary School, North Brunswick Street, Dublin 7 and the unacceptable conditions which pertain as a result; (2) Deputy Joe Walsh — the need for the Minister for Education to have arrangements made for an architect to visit a school (details supplied) in County Cork so that an assessment can be made of the dangerous condition of the school and an immediate programme of necessary improvements can be put in train; (3) Deputy Shortall — the need to tackle illegal drug dealers by establishing a special unit unvolving the Garda Síochána, the Revenue Commissioners and the Department of Social Welfare; (4) Deputy Broughan — the need to reexamine the provision of resources for orthodontic dental care on the north side of Dublin; (5) Deputy Eric Byrne — the need to ensure that sentencing policy is consistent in view of a recent case in which an individual convicted of stealing goods with a total value of £31 was sentenced to five years in prison; (6) Deputy Lawlor — the intentions of the Government regarding the legalisation of gambling casinos and gaming facilities in view of public disquite following a recent planning decision which included proposals for the construction of a casino and having regard to the negative social consequences as evidenced in other jurisdictions; (7) Deputy Lynch — the effects on the work of FÁS community employment schemes of recent changes in the eligibility criteria for such schemes with particular reference to the many arts-based schemes currently in operation and the effects on the employment prospects of those working in the arts; (8) Deputy Nealon — the need to protect the rights of fishermen on Lough Arrow, County Sligo in view of the difficulties being created as a result of the closure of a traditional access point for boats at Ballyrush Bridge; (9) Deputy McDaid — the need for the appointment by September 1996 of an assistant remedial teacher at Woodland National School, Letterkenny, County Donegal; (10) Deputy Cowen — the need for clarification in respect of reported significant irregularities in the operation of the milk quota system which are being investigated by the Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry; (11) Deputy Ring — the need to move a person (details supplied) from a hospital in Cork to Aras Attracta, Swinford, County Mayo; (12) Deputy Ellis — the delay in the provision of sewerage schemes for the villages of Dromod, Drumsna and Jamestown, County Leitrim; (13) Deputy Mary Wallace — the failure of the Department of Health to publish the report of the Review Group on Services for Persons with Physical and Sensory Disabilities.

The matters raised by Deputies Lawlor, Ellis, Shortall and Cowen have been selected for discussion.
