Brennan asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if he will give a detailed breakdown of the proposed £100 million expansion programme of Dublin Airport; the level of planning authorisation required; the independent cost benefit analysis, if any, that has been carried out; and if so, the source of funding of such analysis. The main elements of the development programme which Aer Rianta propose to carry out at Dublin Airport over the years 1996-2001 are the first module of a new passenger handling pier, at an estimated cost of £28.65 million, and the extension of the passenger terminal building, estimated to cost £64.40 million.
Aer Rianta has already obtained planning permission for the new passenger handling pier and planning permission will be sought in due course for the passenger terminal extension.
An independent review of the development programme was undertaken by Indecon International Economic Consultants. The cost of this study was borne by my Department.
The development programme is at present under consideration in my Department in consultation with the Department of Finance.
