Vol. 466 No. 2

Written Answers. - Psychological Assessment.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

107 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education, further to her reply to Parliamentary Question No. 92 of 13 March 1996, whether the necessary psychological assessment has been undertaken in respect of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 1; the steps, if any, that have been taken to obtain a place in an appropriate school for this person in view of the fact that she has been out of school since February 1996; the role, if any, of her Department's inspector in this matter; and when this unacceptable situation will be resolved. [11256/96]

This case was brought to the attention of the psychological service of my Department by the parent in early March 1996. Shortly afterwards a Department psychologist visited the school last attended by the pupil and was informed that the pupil was attending a specialist clinic and a psychological assessment would be carried out there. I understand that this assessment was carried out in mid-April. The Department has now received copies of this assessment and of previous assessments in the case and will be participating in a forthcoming case conference organised by the various services concerned. My Department will then consider what educational provision is required for the pupil concerned.
