Vol. 466 No. 2

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Mary Flaherty

Ceist:

93 Miss Flaherty asked the Minister for Education the provision, if any, that is being made in respect of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 11 who is in need of a special educational facility. [11159/96]

I am aware of the case to which the Deputy refers. I understand that the student in question has been attending St. Joseph's Adolescent Centre, Fairview. At this centre, the student has been in receipt of specialised support services, including an education service.

I further understand that, as a result of an incident which took place at the centre on 23 May 1996, the student was requested not to return to the centre until Tuesday, 28 May 1996.

A case conference to consider the student's future needs was held on 28 May 1996. I am awaiting a report from my Department's primary inspectorate in relation to the outcome of this meeting.
I will be in contact with the Deputy as soon as I have further information.
