Vol. 466 No. 2

Written Answers. - Lucan (Dublin) Community College.

Liam Lawlor

Ceist:

95 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Education the current position regarding the provision of the Irish speaking community college at Lucan, Dublin 20, in view of local parents' concerns; whether she envisages the need for temporary accommodation on site from September 1996; and the level of enrolments anticipated for the first school year of operation. [11161/96]

My Department has been in contact with the owner of the proposed site for the new all-Irish post-primary school in Lucan and is making the necessary arrangements for the acquisition of the land. As soon as the site has been purchased, architectural planning for the project will be initiated. It is not the intention of the Department to provide temporary accommodation on the site from September 1996. However, the question of opening the school in temporary accommodation at a later stage will be considered in consultation with the County Dublin Vocational Education Committee.

At this stage it is not possible for me to indicate when construction will commence. It would be difficult therefore to determine the enrolment for the first year of operation.
