Resource teachers cater for pupils with more serious learning difficulties who are attending mainstream schools on an integrated basis but require special back-up support.
The caseload of each resource teacher is determined by the boards of management of the schools concerned in consultation with my Department's primary inspectorate. Caseloads can vary depending on the degree of need of the individual children involved.
My Department does not keep an ongoing record of the number of children served by each resource teacher or of the average duration of time spent with each pupil.
