Vol. 466 No. 4

Written Answers. - Blackrock (Dublin) School Places.

David Andrews

Ceist:

171 Mr. Andrews asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the large influx of people in Blackrock, County Dublin and the consequent demand for school places in this area; the action, if any, she intends taking in relation to Carysfort national school; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [11441/96]

I am aware of the problems associated with the shortage of school places in the Blackrock area. My Department has been actively pursuing the matter in consultation with the board of management of Carysfort national school, the Mercy Order, who are trustees of the school, and the patron. The order has generously offered the building adjacent to the school for classroom use and, subject to planning procedures, additional accommodation will be available from September 1997.

Discussions are now concentrated on resolving the problem for next September and I expect that a solution will be arrived at in the near future.
